21st 'Mein Vogel/Mans Putns' Photo Contest Captures Latvia's Wild Birds
The 'Mein Vogel/Mans putns' photo competition, now in its 21st year, is set to captivate nature enthusiasts once again. Organized by the Naturpark Dübener Heide and the Stiftung Umwelt, Natur- und Klimaschutz, this event aims to foster interest in birdwatching and nature exploration. The contest is open to photographers of all ages, with a unique focus on capturing Latvia's wild birds in action.
The competition, running from January 1, 2024, to March 20, 2025, encourages participants to submit color photographs of birds in their natural habitat. With this year's warm winter leading to rare sightings and early breeding, including urban nesting owls, photographers are spoiled for choice. Entries must not exceed three per person, with each print measuring 30x40 cm.
Judges will evaluate submissions in four age categories: children (up to 12 years), young people (13-20 years), adults (21-49 years), and the '50+' group. The contest encourages dynamic shots of birds in flight or hunting, but approaching nests and chicks is strictly prohibited. Entries can be submitted at the Museum or by post, all to be received by March 20. Winners will be announced, and a photo exhibition of the best entries will open on April 11.
The 'Mein Vogel/Mans putns' photo competition, with its unique focus on Latvia's wild birds, offers an exciting opportunity for photographers of all ages to showcase their skills. With the warm winter leading to rare sightings, this year's contest promises to be particularly captivating.
