airBaltic and SUA Líneas Aéreas Form Strategic Partnership

In a groundbreaking move, the Latvian national airline airBaltic and SUA Líneas Aéreas, a new startup airline in Latin America, have entered into a strategic partnership. The partnership, set to begin in October 2025, involves airBaltic wet leasing up to five of its Airbus A220-300 aircraft to SUA Líneas Aéreas.

Under the terms of the agreement, airBaltic will provide additional support to SUA in the Latin American region, including operational set-up, pilot training, know-how sharing, IT and automation, and the airline's sustainability initiatives.

The partnership aims to strengthen SUA's market presence in Latin America, with the airline planning to launch operations by the fourth quarter of 2025. SUA's initial routes aim to reduce travel times and provide direct alternatives for regional passengers, connecting cities across Uruguay, Argentina, Brazil, and Chile.

SUA expects to benefit significantly from airBaltic's expertise in fleet management, operational efficiency, and staff training. The startup airline is confident that airBaltic's experience and support will be critical in the early phase of its development.

Martin Gauss, President and CEO of airBaltic, stated that the collaboration with SUA Líneas Aéreas represents a unique opportunity to bring airBaltic's expertise in operating the Airbus A220-300 to a new region. Antonio Rama, CEO of SUA Líneas Aéreas, did not provide a specific comment in the article.

The wet leasing agreement in the aviation industry means airBaltic planes will be operating flights on behalf of SUA Líneas Aéreas within South America. airBaltic stated that having up to five of its planes on the other side of the world would not affect its own operations, and the aircraft will be used more efficiently without impacting the existing route network.

SUA Líneas Aéreas plans to create a customer-centric airline, focusing on providing a seamless travel experience for its passengers. The startup airline's operations will prioritise efficiency, sustainability, and a commitment to delivering high-quality service.

With this strategic partnership, airBaltic and SUA Líneas Aéreas are set to make a significant impact on the aviation industry in Latin America. The collaboration represents a step forward in airBaltic's global expansion strategy and SUA's mission to become a leading airline in the region.
