Airline support expands for Apple AirTag, enabling users to trace their checked baggage.
In a move to ease the stress and financial inconvenience of lost luggage during flights, Apple's AirTag and Share Item Location feature are now supported by a total of 30 airlines.
The latest addition to this list is Saudia Airlines, joining the ranks of Aer Lingus, Ajet, Air Canada, Air India, Air New Zealand, American Airlines, Austrian Airlines, Breeze Airlines, British Airways, Brussels Airlines, Cathay Pacific, China Airlines, Delta, Eurowings, Finnair, Iberia, JetBlue, KLM, Lufthansa, Pegasus, Porter, Qantas, Singapore Airlines, Swiss, Sun Express, Turkish Airlines, United, Virgin Atlantic, and Vueling.
With this collaboration, passengers can now attach an AirTag to their luggage and share a live tracking link through the airline's digital portal. This feature, introduced in iOS 18, allows users to share the location of their luggage for a set time, aiding in its swift recovery.
The location sharing is secure, automatically ending once the baggage is located, but it can also be stopped manually at any time and will expire after seven days. The location of the AirTag-tagged luggage can be tracked on an iPhone, streamlining the process of locating lost luggage during travel.
To use this feature, you need a device running iOS 18.2, iPadOS 18.2, or macOS 15.2 or later. Through the Find My app, you generate a secure tracking link to share with the airline, making it easier to locate lost luggage during your journey.
It's important to note that the Apple AirTag is a device that can help track the location of luggage with high accuracy. The effectiveness of the AirTag in preventing lost luggage during flights is not quantified in this article.
However, the Share Item Location feature is designed to help reunite users with their lost luggage, providing a valuable service for travellers worldwide. By working with these airlines, Apple aims to make travel more seamless and less stressful for its users.
