New Direct Flight Between Panama and Los Cabos Boosts International Tourism

A significant development in the tourism industry is on the horizon, as Copa Airlines is set to launch a new direct flight between Panama and Los Cabos on December 4, 2025. This new route marks a historic milestone, strengthening air connectivity between Panama—a major Latin American hub—and Los Cabos, an important tourist destination in Mexico.

Maribel Collins, head of the Baja California Sur Secretariat of Tourism and Economy (SETUE), has stated that this new route represents a fundamental step to diversify and strengthen international tourism in Mexico. The route is expected to attract tourists from Panama, as well as countries like Colombia, Brazil, Argentina, Chile, and Peru, which have shown a growing affinity for Los Cabos.

For Los Cabos, the new route expands access to international visitors from these countries, likely boosting tourism and economic activity by connecting the resort city directly to a major Latin American hub without requiring transfers. The new flight route is also the first to connect Los Cabos with Latin America, and it is estimated to generate an annual flow of more than 25,000 tourists from Central and South America.

For Colombia, although the flight is not direct from Colombia, Panama’s status as a regional hub means travelers from Colombia can more easily connect to Los Cabos via Panama City. This improves travel convenience and could foster more tourism exchange and business links between Colombia and Los Cabos through this efficient connection.

It is worth noting that Copa Airlines already has an extensive network of successful connections in the mentioned countries. The airline's global CEO and President, Iván Espinosa, who was recently named to this position, has expressed confidence in the potential of this new route to further strengthen the airline's presence in the region.

In summary, the new direct Panama–Los Cabos flight is a strategic expansion of Copa Airlines' Latin American network, facilitating travel and commerce between Mexico, Panama, and indirectly Colombia by leveraging Panama’s hub status. The Los Cabos Tourism Trust and Copa Airlines are excited about this development, which promises to bring a new wave of tourists to the region, boosting both visitor arrivals and the economic development of the community.

The new direct Panama-Los Cabos flight, a strategic expansion of Copa Airlines' network, could potentially attract tourists from Colombia and other South American countries, such as Brazil, Argentina, Chile, and Peru, due to Panama's hub status, thereby enhancing lifestyle opportunities and fostering business ties. Early estimates suggest that this route could generate an annual flow of over 25,000 tourists from Central and South America, boosting the local economy and promoting finance and business growth in Los Cabos and Panama.
