Budget airline Wizz Air strengthens its presence in Sibiu by introducing a second aircraft and broadening its flight operations.
In an exciting development for the Romanian aviation industry, budget airline Wizz Air has announced significant growth in its operations at Sibiu International Airport for the upcoming winter season. The expansion includes the addition of a second Airbus A320ceo aircraft, the launch of six new routes, and an increase in flight frequencies on popular routes.
Since its first flight from Sibiu in 2014, Wizz Air has grown steadily in the city. The airline has transported over three million passengers through the airport, and the number of routes it operates has increased significantly since then. Currently, Wizz Air serves six countries from Sibiu, including Basel, Frankfurt Hahn, Hamburg, Madrid, Rome Fiumicino, and Vienna.
The new routes include a highly anticipated connection to Milan Bergamo, set to begin in January 2026. Flights will operate three times a week, on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. Other destinations seeing increased frequency are Memmingen, with flights now offered daily, and Nuernberg and Baden-Baden, with four weekly flights each.
The Milan Bergamo route is part of Wizz Air's broader growth strategy in Romania. The airline is also opening a dedicated aircraft maintenance hub and scaling up its fleet, signalling a long-term commitment to the Romanian market.
The new routes and increased frequencies represent a 48% increase in capacity compared to 2024. Tickets for the Milan Bergamo route are already available on Wizz Air's website and mobile app, with fares starting at RON 79.
Wizz Air's expansion in Sibiu is part of a larger plan for the winter 2025-2026 season, which includes multiple cities and new routes across Romania. For passengers looking to travel from Sibiu, this means more options and greater convenience.
