Celebratory merriment with KLJB during holidays
On a sunny day in July 2025, a group of 20 children aged 6-10, accompanied by 9 supervisors, embarked on an exciting journey from Sonsbeck, Germany, to Irrland Twisteden. The group was part of KLJB Sonsbeck, a local chapter of the Catholic Rural Youth Movement (Katholische Landjugendbewegung, KLJB) that has been an integral part of the Sonsbeck community since its foundation in 1960.
The day began bright and early, with the group gathering at the Sonsbeck pig market at 9 am. Each child was equipped with a self-labeled blue cap and had a packed backpack, ready for a day of adventure.
Upon arrival in Twisteden, the group loaded a wagon with drinks, raw vegetables, snacks, and barbecue equipment. The children and supervisors divided into small groups to try out different slides, explore the Lego hall, and discover other attractions. After a hearty meal of grilled sausages in a bun, fresh fruit, and raw vegetables at noon, the group visited an indoor playground and a ball pool.
In the afternoon, the group visited water slides, where the children splashed and played to their hearts' content. Despite changeable weather, the group continued their activities, making the most of their day out.
Reflecting on the day, some supervisors were reminded of their childhood memories, highlighting the enduring appeal of such experiences for young people. After extensive playing, sliding, and splashing, the group had to return to Sonsbeck, where they were awaited by their parents at 6 pm.
KLJB Sonsbeck organises a variety of events aimed at promoting social interaction, faith, and community involvement among rural youth. In addition to social gatherings and cultural events, they focus on educational programs and projects that deal with social issues, fostering leadership, and encouraging active participation in community life. They collaborate with local churches, schools, and other organisations to enhance their outreach and impact.
