Chrysler Mulls Over Introducing a Sportier, Exploration-Focused Version of the Pacifica
Chrysler is set to introduce SRT (high-performance) and Overland-style (adventure-oriented) versions of the Pacifica minivan as part of a new strategy influenced by changes in U.S. emissions policies.
The SRT version of the Pacifica aims to offer a high-performance variant of the vehicle, boosting engine power and sporty features to appeal to buyers looking for more dynamic driving characteristics.
On the other hand, the Overland-style Pacifica is being developed as an adventure-focused model, with modifications that make it suitable for outdoor activities. Chrysler plans to showcase a modified Pacifica at the Overland Expo event series, which is a leading platform for adventure vehicle enthusiasts.
The current Pacifica already offers a strong 3.5-liter V6 engine with 287 horsepower, available with all-wheel drive and a fuel-efficient hybrid option. The SRT and Overland versions will build on these foundations, targeting customers who want performance or ruggedness in their minivan.
This new direction is part of Chrysler's broader plan that also includes new crossovers and a compact car under $30,000, reflecting a strategic response to market demands and regulatory changes.
The revival of the Stellantis Street and Racing Technology (SRT) division is part of the reason for this evaluation. Chrysler CEO Christine Feuell has outlined a vision for SRT models under the Chrysler brand.
Feuell confirmed Chrysler is developing multiple new products, including two crossovers and a compact car targeting a base price under $30,000 USD. The Pacifica could attract adventure-seeking buyers with AWD and rugged branding if the SRT and Overland-style versions are developed.
In addition, Chrysler is considering putting the SRT badge on the Pacifica, making it one of the first Chrysler models to carry the SRT badge. However, it has been confirmed that the Pacifica Hellcat will be built, but it will not be by Stellantis.
The larger crossover, still unconfirmed, is likely to use the STLA Large platform and may be assembled in Windsor. The smaller crossover is expected to use the STLA Medium platform and be produced in Brampton, Ontario.
Two new crossovers and a sub-$30,000 compact car are part of Chrysler's five-year product roadmap. The modified Pacifica concept appeals to a growing market segment seeking rugged-looking, multi-purpose vehicles.
Chrysler presented this vision for SRT models and new vehicles at the Carlisle Chrysler Nationals in Pennsylvania. The event provided an opportunity for Feuell to discuss the vision for SRT models under the Chrysler brand. Beyond performance, Feuell mentioned improvements to Stow 'n Go seating as part of the next Pacifica update.
