Complimentary Culture and Sports Pass: Student Free Card Reinstated
For Arts Lovers, Theater-Goers, and Sports Enthusiasts, It's Back to Free Passes for Students Starting November! Here's Everything You Need to Know.
Ready to catch a show at the Thalia Theater or gaze at "Flowers Forever" at the Bucerius Kunst Forum? Or perhaps a Pilates session? From November 1st, you won't have to empty your wallet, thanks to the return of the student pass, valid till the end of February 2025!
However, there’s a catch: you must be a student and in either your first or second year. The student pass is an initiative by the Hermann Rauhe Foundation aimed at new students in Hamburg, to introduce them to the city's cultural and sports side. As Marleen Harms, Cultural Affairs Representative for the General Student Council (AStA) of our university, puts it, "The student pass is a fantastic opportunity for newcomers to familiarize themselves with the city - and for Hamburg residents, a reason to experience their city from a fresh perspective."
Ideally, you should have received your pass during the orientation week from your respective student council. In case you haven't, reach out to your student council to avoid missing any performances, exhibitions, or sports classes. To get a clear picture of where the pass is valid and how you can obtain tickets at various theaters, take a peek at the "My Student Pass" website. For sports events, register at Sportspass.
If you're eager for a sneak peek, here's a rundown of some participating institutions, among others: the Hamburg State Opera, the Thalia Theater, the Elbphilharmonie, the Ohnsorg Theater, the German Theater, the Planetarium, the Deichtorhallen, the Metropolis Kino, the Literature House Hamburg, and many more. Even in Kiel, you can visit the Maritime Museum or the Comedy Theater!

Meet Till Tognino, the Guy with the "Colgate Smile"
If Till Tognino, born in 2000, had his way, he'd be a goldsmith. Instead, he ended up studying journalism in his hometown, Magdeburg. Quite the contrast, isn't it? Since then, Till has traded goldsmithing for crafting sharp texts, whether for MDR Television, Namibian radio stations, or a German-language weekly newspaper in Spain. With his self-proclaimed lovable obsession with politics, he managed to rattle off the names of all Ministers in Angela Merkel's cabinet at 13. When he's not schooling someone on what a majority bonus is, he enjoys photography, particularly snapping photos of parrots and frogs in Costa Rica, where he spent eight months working in a national park. His code: tog.
