Discover Lee Miller's Extraordinary Life at The Star's Unique Event
The 'Star' in East Sussex is set to host a unique event honouring the life and work of legendary photographer and war correspondent, Elizabeth 'Lee' Miller. The 'Discover Lee Miller Experience' coincides with the upcoming film 'Lee', starring Kate Winslet, and marks the 75th anniversary of Miller's iconic photograph taken in Hitler's bathtub on the same day as his suicide.
On September 5, guests will enjoy a supper at The Star, followed by a private tour of Farleys House and Gallery the next day. The tour will showcase Miller's own photographs and artworks left behind by her famous friends, including Picasso, Man Ray, and Henry Moore. Miller's granddaughter, Ami Bouhassane, an academic involved in art history, will host a 'Surrealist Lee Miller Dinner' that evening. Born in 1907 in the US, Miller worked as a fashion model before becoming a renowned photographer and war correspondent, covering events such as The Blitz, the liberation of Paris, and concentration camps during World War II. After the war, she moved to Britain, settled in Chiddingly, East Sussex, and suffered from clinical depression. Her home became a Mecca for mid-20th-century Surrealist art figures.
The one-off 'Discover Lee Miller Experience' at Olga Polizzi's Hotel The Star is a rare opportunity to delve into the extraordinary life and work of Lee Miller. Guests can expect a fascinating journey through Miller's career, her influence on Surrealist art, and her significant contributions to photojournalism during World War II.
