Diwali Lights Up Global Travel Interest
Diwali, the festival of lights, is sparking international interest this year. Agoda's travel insights reveal a significant surge in searches for India during the upcoming Diwali week, with both domestic and international travelers showing keen enthusiasm.
Domestic travel interest in India during Diwali has increased by 18%. Gaurav Malik, Country Director for the Indian Subcontinent and Indian Ocean Islands at Agoda, commented on the trends, highlighting the growing international interest in India's cultural festivals. Indeed, searches for India during Diwali have grown by 67% year-on-year among international travelers.
The ten international markets showing the strongest interest in travel to India during the Diwali festival period in 2025 include the United Kingdom, France, Schengen countries, and other international destinations. Notably, South Korea recorded a staggering 4500% increase in searches for India during Diwali compared to last year. Other countries like the United Arab Emirates and the United States also saw significant increases of 87% and 28%, respectively. Closer neighbors Thailand and Malaysia saw searches grow by nearly twofold and 25%, respectively.
In terms of domestic destinations, Udaipur and Jaipur recorded a 49% and 46% rise in searches, respectively, among the top five destinations. Internationally, Goa is the most searched destination for the Diwali festive period. New Delhi and Mumbai searches rose by 100% and 18%, respectively, during Diwali, indicating a widespread interest in experiencing India's vibrant festival culture.
