Durham University has made significant strides in sustainability, earning multiple recognitions at prestigious green awards. The university's commitment to minimizing environmental impact has been commended across various categories.
Durham University's dedication to sustainability was first recognised at the UK & Ireland Green Gown Awards. It reached the finals in two categories: Creating Impact and Sustainability Institution of the Year. The university's cleaning product range was streamlined from 93 to 19 using Odorbac, improving safety and minimising waste, which contributed to its nomination in the Creating Impact category.
In 2024, the university's efforts were further acknowledged at the same awards. It was named Sustainability Institution of the Year and received a High Commendation in the Nature Positive category. Additionally, its Renewable Energy Northeast Universities (ReNU) doctoral training programme was Highly Commended for fostering future leaders in renewable and sustainable energy fields.
