Earth Animal, Fera Pets & rePurpose Global Clean Up 1.27M Plastic Bags in Colombia
Earth Animal, a company dedicated to caring for animals, people, and the globe, recently joined forces with Fera Pets and rePurpose Global to tackle plastic pollution in Colombia. The collaborative effort, timed for World Ocean Day, saw over 50 volunteers clean up a significant amount of plastic waste in Buenaventura.
The cleanup event, held in a crucial habitat for migrating humpback whales, addressed the severe plastic pollution issue caused by inadequate waste management. Volunteers collected a staggering 16,797 pounds of plastic waste, equivalent to 1.27 million plastic bags. In exchange for their efforts, volunteers received essential items such as cooking tools and children's games.
Earth Animal and Fera Pets, along with rePurpose Global, have been supporting initiatives to preserve natural ecosystems. rePurpose Global, co-founded by an innovative leader, convenes brands to back impact projects protecting vulnerable coastal regions worldwide. This cleanup is part of their ongoing commitment to reducing the 20 million metric tons of plastic that leak into the environment annually, as reported by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN).
The successful cleanup in Buenaventura highlights the importance of collective action in combating plastic pollution. Earth Animal, Fera Pets, and rePurpose Global demonstrate that businesses can play a significant role in preserving the planet, one initiative at a time.
