Essen's Gruga-Fair Kicks Off: Introduced Are These Thrilling Rides
The much-anticipated 2025 Gruga Fair in Essen, Germany, is gearing up for an unforgettable event, with a diverse range of new attractions set to thrill visitors.
Organiser Albert Ritter expects around 25,000 visitors to attend the fair, which will take place from August 15 to 24, 2025, at Messeparkplatz P1 in front of the Grugahalle (45131 Essen).
One of the highlights of the 2025 edition is the introduction of an underwater simulation (U2000) and a 40-meter-high chain flyer. These new attractions, along with other rides and entertainment options, are part of the featured highlights for the 2025 event, showcased in videos with impressions of the rides available at the fair.
The Gruga Fair is renowned for its extensive range of amusement rides and entertainment options, and this year, notable new features such as the underwater simulation experience and chain flyer have been introduced to enhance visitor excitement.
Among the new attractions, the Ghost Train "Zombie" extends over two levels on a track of 220 meters. Other rides include classics like the Musikexpress and the Autoscooter.
In addition to the thrilling rides, visitors can enjoy various culinary delights such as sweets, ice cream specialties, crepes, or slush ice. The Grugahalle Flea Market will also run concurrently with the summer festival from August 15th to 24th.
New additions to the fair include Project 1, which offers a unique combination of height, inclination, and rotation, and the Sound Wave action carousel, with ten gondolas attached to flexible arms, resembling an oversized music player.
The fair's opening hours are Monday to Friday, 2 pm to 10 pm, and Saturday and Sunday, 11 am to 10 pm. On Thursday, August 21, a family day takes place with discounted prices and special activities for children.
The fair's safety measures remain unchanged, despite a recent accident at the Cranger Kirmes. Visitors can expect a safe and enjoyable experience at the summer festival at the Grugahalle.
Historical rides such as Hornig's Swan Flyer, with hand-painted canvases and 20 gondolas, and the High Swing Flyer, introduced in 2021 and swinging passengers over the festival grounds at a height of 40 meters, will also be present.
