Exciting "wrapping rail" train journey commemorates World Children's Day celebration
The historic Wuppertalbahn, a beloved attraction in Germany, has resumed operations once again, transporting passengers along the picturesque Wupper river from Wuppertal-Rauental (Oberbarmen) to Beyenburg. The reopening, which took place on June 18, 2006, was marked by a special inaugural train ride on February 8th, 2025.
The first ride departs from Beyenburg at 10 a.m., with the second departure scheduled around 11 a.m. Exact departure times can be found on the official website, www.wuppertalbahn.eu. Upon arrival in Beyenburg, the historic train is warmly welcomed by hundreds of people.
The maiden voyage of the Wuppertalbahn departed from the website's main station, carrying approximately 250 passengers. The destination, idyllic Beyenburg, offers a charming end to the journey. For children aged 6 to 14, a round trip ticket costs five euros, while children under six years old can enjoy the ride for free.
The association "Wupperschiene" has made the operation of the Wuppertalbahn possible after years of preparation. Ulrich Grotstollen, chairman of the association, gave a speech at the inauguration ceremony. Bernd Schacher, a board member of the association, has also played a significant role in the project.
While the reopened section from Wuppertal-Rauental to Beyenburg is now operational, the section from Beyenburg to the dam of the Wuppertalsperre Radevormwald-Wilhelmstal is yet to be approved for operation. The association plans to extend the route to Dahlerau, Vogelsmühle, and Dahlhausen in the future.
The special day aims to provide families with children a pleasant day out, offering a unique blend of history and fun. Access to the historic carriages is not barrier-free, but assistance is provided. No information about ticket prices for future rides beyond Beyenburg has been announced as of now.
As the Wuppertalbahn continues its journey, it invites passengers to step back in time and experience a piece of Germany's rich history. For more information and to plan your visit, please refer to the official website, www.wuppertalbahn.eu.
