How it Works
Booking your Skycouch is simple - at the seat selection stage, you can opt for it on a row of three seats, perfect for solo travelers, couples, or families. Just imagine, for the price of $150 each, a couple can secure a spare seat between them, creating a comfortable, relaxing space.
The magic lies in transforming each seat's footrest into a flat surface when raised. Voila! You have a couch-like bed. Air New Zealand also provides a quilt, large pillows, and blankets to ensure you sleep like a baby at 30,000 feet.
Skycouch on the Ground
I was traveling with my family, and let me tell you, Air New Zealand's customer service was top-notch. The crew on the Auckland to Perth flight were nothing short of legends. They were extremely helpful and accommodating, offering extra snacks, bringing early meals, and even promising my little one a visit to the cockpit if she managed some sleep. This exceptional service really added to the experience.
The catering was delicious, but surprisingly, the kids' meal actually had more food on the tray than the adult option. For an overnight 5.5-hour flight, the portion was more than enough, but for an adult male, it might not suffice. On the 6.5-hour flight from Auckland to Perth, we were served both a meal and a snack, which was a welcome addition since meals aren't particularly large.
In-flight amenities, such as Wi-Fi and in-seat power, are available, though the lack of an in-flight amenity kit and kids' activity packs on medium-haul flights may disappoint some passengers. Kids' headphones are available upon request, which I'd highly recommend securing as soon as you board.
