High-end Ischia resort has reopened post extensive renovation, showcasing a breathtaking transformation.
In the picturesque town of Lacco Ameno on Ischia's northwestern coast, the San Montano Resort & Spa has recently revealed the initial phase of a four-year renovation project. This transformation aims to harmoniously blend the resort's heritage with contemporary luxury, redefining its sense of place [1][3].
Perched atop Monte Vico, the resort boasts approximately 65 newly revamped rooms and eight luxurious suites, each designed to elevate the guest experience with an authentic Italian ambiance [5]. The renovation, led by Rino Gambardella and Claudio Pulicati, the same architects behind Borgo Santandrea, incorporates elements from postwar masters like Gio Ponti and Ico Parisi [2].
The resort's Ocean Blue Spa offers a wide range of treatments, including mud therapies, physiotherapy, and kinesiotherapy, all housed within five treatment rooms, a sauna, hammam, Kneipp pool, and experience showers, as well as an outdoor treatment area [4]. Guests can also enjoy the resort's scenic views and relax by the pool, with the promise of further enhancements to these facilities as the renovation progresses.
Foodies will be delighted by San Montano's culinary offerings, overseen by Executive Chef Francesco Scotto di Minico and featuring age-old traditions and locally sourced ingredients. Franco's offers standout Neapolitan pizzas with unique toppings, while Acropoli Bar serves light poolside fare. For a more formal dining experience, La Veranda, the hotel's fine dining restaurant, serves inspired dishes like lobster panzanella and ravioli with traditional Ischian rabbit sauce [6].
One of the suites, the Amalfi Sunrise Suite, offers a spacious infinity pool overlooking the Gulf of Naples and Mount Vesuvius. The Lighthouse Suite, a unique two-bedroom villa located at the resort's highest point, features a standalone, glass-enclosed living space called the "Winter Garden" with a retractable roof, fully equipped kitchen, and 360-degree views of the Tyrrhenian Sea [6].
The resort's concierge team can arrange visits to centuries-old vineyards, private excursions aboard luxury boats, fishing with local fishermen, and other experiences on the island, ensuring that guests have a truly authentic Ischian adventure [7]. Ischia, despite being four times the size of Capri, is incredibly accessible and offers a remarkably compact footprint filled with history, culture, and authentic experiences [8].
As the sun sets, guests can head to the Sunset Bar, the island's go-to spot for aperitivo at dusk, with live piano and harp music. The resort aims to make guests feel like they are staying in a home rather than a hotel, offering new wellness programming such as guided hiking tours, yoga sessions, and cooking classes [9].
With further phases of the renovation planned for 2025, the San Montano Resort & Spa continues to set the stage for a luxurious Italian getaway, seamlessly blending heritage and contemporary elegance [1][3][5].
