In the picturesque cultural city of Unkel, a significant network meeting was held to discuss strategies for enhancing tourism in the district. Organized by the county's economic development, the event brought together businesses, institutions, and service providers, aiming to attract more guests to the region with an appealing offer.

County Executive Achim Hallerbach emphasized the importance of regionality and enjoyment as main focuses for successful tourism work. He highlighted that the key success factors revolve around cooperation, regional identity, and the activation of local strengths. While direct detailed statements by him on this specific topic may not be explicitly found, his involvement in encouraging cooperation among local stakeholders, such as the call to cooperation among wine producers ("WeinSTEIGwinzern"), suggests that collaboration and community engagement are fundamental principles in enhancing tourism appeal.

The Naturpark Rhein-Westerwald and the Regional Initiative Naturgenuss were mentioned as potential success factors in tourism marketing. Irmgard Schröder presented on the Naturpark Rhein-Westerwald, emphasizing the conservation and promotion of natural landscapes, hiking, and outdoor activities, supporting tourism that highlights natural beauty. Jörg Hohenadl presented on the joint initiative "Naturgenuss-Partner", integrating local food, wine, and tradition into the tourism experience, complementing the natural attractions and helping to build a compelling regional brand.

Stefan Heinrichs, as a Naturgenuss partner, relies on cooperation in direct marketing. He called on attendees to intensify network work, look for new cooperations, and further develop the region tourism-wise together. Wendelin Abresch from the Wällermarkt and Stefan Heinrichs from Geflügelhof Heinrichs in Bruchhausen concluded the stimulating exchange.

Steffi Kloeckner, owner of Birkenhof distillery and Naturgenuss producer, reported around 20,000 visitors per year. She stated that visitors also use enjoyable experience offers and look for further regional products from the Westerwald in her distillery shop. Hubert Lanz, owner of Weinhaus "Zur Traube" and Naturgenuss host, reported positive guest feedback for regional products in his restaurant.

The meeting concluded with a tour of the historic city Unkel led by the history association Unkel e.V. and city archivist Wilfried Meitzner. The event attracted approximately 50 attendees, all eager to contribute to the development of a more appealing tourism offer for the County of Neuwied.

In summary, the emphasis on cooperation, regional identity, and the activation of local strengths is at the heart of the County of Neuwied's tourism marketing strategy. The Naturpark Rhein-Westerwald and the Regional Initiative Naturgenuss contribute significantly to these success factors by offering authentic nature and regional experiences that are central to the county's tourism marketing. Together, these elements create a holistic, appealing tourism marketing approach for nature and regional enjoyment in the County of Neuwied.

  1. To further enhance tourism in the County of Neuwied, it is proposed that the food-and-drink sector collaborates with the home-and-garden industry to create appealing, regionally-themed experiences for visitors, as observed in the joint initiative "Naturgenuss-Partner."
  2.
