Kuwaiti Hip-Hop Duo Sons of Yusuf Release 'Granada', Submitted for Grammy Consideration
Kuwaiti hip-hop duo Sons of Yusuf, consisting of Ya'koob and Abdul Rahman Al Refaie, have released their latest album 'Granada'. The record pays tribute to Muslim scholars and the Islamic Golden Age, with the duo submitting it for Grammy consideration in the Best Rap Album category.
Formed in 2011 to promote Kuwaiti hip-hop culture, Sons of Yusuf gained recognition with their debut mixtape 'Arabia's Most Wanted' in 2012. Their latest work, 'Granada', is a result of international collaboration, with musicians from Kuwait and the United States contributing remotely. The album was inspired by field research in Granada and the House of Wisdom in Sharjah, leading to tracks like 'House of Wisdom' and 'Lion of the Desert'.
Ya'koob describes their musical style as having 'warrior energy', reflecting the Islamic Golden Age. The duo, who are best friends and pray together daily, has been instrumental in popularizing Khaliji hip-hop in Kuwait and the broader region. They are currently recording at The Grey Fish Studio in Kuwait City.
'Granada' by Sons of Yusuf is a testament to the duo's creativity and dedication to preserving Islamic heritage through music. With its Grammy consideration, the album stands as a significant achievement in the Kuwaiti hip-hop scene.
