Farin Urlaub, the singer and guitarist of German punk band Die Ärzte, will be performing with his solo band, Farin Urlaub Racing Team (FURT), at Kindl-Bühne Wuhlheide in Berlin on Thursday, August 20. This concert marks Urlaub's return to the city after a 20-year absence.

Die Ärzte, which formed in West Berlin in 1982, has come a long way from playing in Kreuzberg squats to performing on big stadium stages. Their fourth studio album, Faszination Weltraum, released in the autumn of 2021 on Urlaub's own Völker Hört Die Tonträger label, showcases his penchant for solid rock and slick, humourous German lyrics. One of the standout songs on the album is "Dynamit", which criticizes modern urban architecture and the monotonous way that inner cities are planned today, not only in Berlin but in cities worldwide.

Urlaub has an ambivalent relationship with Berlin, appreciating it while feeling frustrated with changes. He supports the anti-gentrification protests, expressing concern about the destruction of what makes a city liveable. However, specific statements or positions on these issues from Urlaub are not readily available in current sources.

Urlaub's true passion is travel, and he considers music a vital part of his life. In September, he will be releasing his third and fourth photo books about travels through Africa. Profits from these books will be donated to Doctors Without Borders. Additionally, Urlaub supports individuals he met during his travels directly.

A live DVD/CD titled Danger! recorded on their current tour will also be released in September. This release promises to capture the energy and humour that Die Ärzte and FURT bring to their live performances.

It's worth noting that the Berlin music scene has evolved significantly since Die Ärzte's early days. There is no longer a unified scene in Berlin, instead many isolated ones. Despite this fragmentation, Urlaub's concert at Kindl-Bühne Wuhlheide is sure to be a highlight of the city's music scene this summer.

In his travels, Farin Urlaub, the singer and guitarist of Die Ärzte, has found inspiration for his music, integrating slick humour and commentary on modern urban lifestyles into his songs, such as in the standout track "Dynamit". Embracing music as a vital part of his life, Urlaub will also be releasing his third and fourth photo books about travels through Africa in September, with profits going to Doctors Without Borders.
