Ontario Expands EV Charging Infrastructure with SureCharge, Backed by St. Thomas Gigafactory

Ontario is set to expand its public electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure with SureCharge, backed by the upcoming battery gigafactory in St. Thomas. This project signals growing activity in the region's EV ecosystem, following Alberta and British Columbia's lead.

SureCharge Corp. plans to deploy 96 stalls powered by Wallbox's Supernova 180 kW chargers. The first hubs are expected to go live in Red Deer, Lacombe, and the Enoch Cree Nation by the end of 2025. The project aims to improve access for drivers along high-traffic corridors and underserved regions, reducing 'range anxiety' for current and potential EV drivers.

The project has received significant funding, with over $4.7 million from Natural Resources Canada and $400,000 from the Government of British Columbia. Future sites are planned for Whitecourt, Grande Prairie, Jasper, Fort St. John, Fernie, Edson, Grand Cache, Hinton, Rocky Mountain House, Valleyview, and Diamond Valley.

SureCharge's expansion in Ontario, supported by the St. Thomas gigafactory, is a significant step in growing the EV ecosystem. The project's funding and planned locations demonstrate a commitment to improving EV charging infrastructure and accessibility across the region.
