Picturesque Coconut Palms Surround Ishahayi Beach House, Offering Tropical Paradise Lifestyle

Calling all beach bums! Get ready to kick back and relax because Ishahayai Beach House, nestled on a barrier island off the coast of Nigeria, is your new paradise. This bad boy is a four-bedroom, sand-white retreat designed by the architecturally awesome Studio Contra, a firm featured in our Architects Directory 2022.

Your Invitation to the Ishahayai Beach Life

This contemporary coastal hideout caters to a city dweller wanting to escape the urban jungle for some sun, sand, and good vibes. With a 6,000 sq m plot framed by over 75 majestic coconut palms, this retreat is an ode to nature.

Architect and co-founder of Contra Studios, Olayinka Dosekun-Adjei, explains that the inspiration for Ishahayai Beach House came from a desire to create a serene haven that harmonizes with its stunning natural surroundings. This vision resulted in a symmetrical plan that fan-tails towards the ocean, ensuring every room boasts breathtaking ocean views.

The Great Outdoors: The Star of the Show

Given its prime beachfront location, it's no surprise that outdoor spaces take center stage at Ishahayai Beach House. With a lap of luxury outdoor seating areas, both shaded and unshaded, the focus is on making the most of Nigeria's sun-kissed coastline.

Wanna feel like a celebrity? A series of seven staircases, eleven in total if you count the ones to the upper level, add a dose of sophistication and drama. These grand staircases not only serve a functional purpose but also make a visual statement, slowing your roll as you ascend to take in the ocean views.

Embracing the Elements

The Ishahayai Beach House design is all about minimalism, blending harmoniously with its coastal environment. Subtle curves in the facade bring a sense of comfort and calm, while muted colors like sand-white, terracotta tiles, and natural stone ground the structure.

Despite its remote paradise location, creating this slice of heaven came with its own set of challenges. Accessing the site by boat from Lagos and dealing with the constant presence of salt air and humidity called for a thoughtful approach to material selection.

In the end, all the hard work paid off, resulting in a light, airy retreat that embodies the tropical environment of the beach location. So grab your sunscreen, shades, and flip-flops, and get ready to soak up the sun at Ishahayai Beach House!
