Hey there! The Tourist Information Center for Krasnoyarsk Krai is almost done wrapping up the bidding process for the initial phase of Molochnaya Island's renovation project. This project, funded by the regional budget for 2025-2026, aims to create a unique recreational space in the center of Krasnoyarsk—a mix of a relaxation spot, an open-air museum, a water-motor sports center, and more!

Molochnaya Island, once known as Telichy Island, was named after Vasiliy Molochnikov, a legendary pilot who played a crucial role in saving the Shmidt Expedition and the crew of the ship "Chelyuskin." The island was home to a hydroport that sent polar aviation aircraft northward. Remarkably, the hydroport building, the only remnant of 1930s polar aviation architecture in Russia, has survived to this day.

The renovation plan, developed by OOO "Cooperative Project Workshop A-2," was presented in 2024. The plan calls for an investment of 25.5 million rubles, but the actual construction costs for the proposed facilities are set to be much higher, especially during the first phase.

The initial contract cost for the renovation stands at 208.6 million rubles. The construction tenders were announced at the end of May, and the work is set to be completed by September 1, 2026.

According to the plan, the hydroport building, some pavilions, and the International Union of Water-Motor Sports building will be preserved. Other dilapidated structures and buildings with no cultural significance will be demolished.

The main attraction on the island will be a Park-Museum of Arctic Exploration, which will delve into the history of polar aviation. The centerpiece of the museum is expected to be a restored Douglas airplane, currently undergoing restoration in Novosibirsk, and will be displayed in a glass pavilion overlooking the water.

Near the Park-Museum, a hotel complex will be built. On the cape, a visitor center with panoramic views of both banks of the Yenisei River and the Tatyshev Island will be constructed, and on the northern bank, a restaurant with panoramic windows will be established.

A water-motor sports club, as well as an exhibition dedicated to hydroaviation and the fleet, are planned for the southeastern part of the island.

Residents of Krasnoyarsk are promised a new pedestrian bridge that will connect the island to Ulitsa Parusnaya on the southern bank.

Overall, the plan is to make Molochnaya Island not only a new recreational spot but also a major tourist attraction in the regional center. The deadline for contractor applications is June 18. By mid-July, we'll know who will be transforming the green oasis in the middle of the Yenisei River, which has been neglected for years!
