Refurbished Secure Retreat at PP Recklinghausen
The Police Headquarters in Recklinghausen has announced the appointment of Markus Wippermann as the new Evangelical Police Chaplain in Recklinghausen/Bottrop. The news was transmitted by news aktuell on July 8, 2023.
Markus Wippermann, a 44-year-old Roman Catholic priest, has been serving as a crisis intervention chaplain and has gained valuable insights into various aspects of police work. He has been residing in Gladbeck since 2022, in addition to his service in Dortmund.
The Evangelical Church of Westphalia played a significant role in finding a successor for the recently retired pastor Burkhard Müller. The appointment was made by Police President Friederike Zurhausen.
Police chaplaincy is a 'safe space for those who protect others' and is not part of the official hierarchy. Markus Wippermann will serve as a part-time police chaplain, alongside his role as a community pastor in Gladbeck.
In his new role, Markus Wippermann, along with his Catholic colleague Gregor Coerdt, will be responsible for teaching professional ethics, supporting colleagues after challenging deployments, and being available for guidance in professional or personal matters.
Markus Wippermann is looking forward to his new role and has expressed his passion for traveling, reading, spending time with family and friends, and volunteering in crisis intervention.
