Festival in Phú Quốc to showcase traditional fish sauce

Gear up for a tangy delight as the first-ever Phú Quốc fish sauce festival is set to take place from June 27th to 29th, 2025. This island fiesta promises to be the pearl in Phú Quốc's cultural crown, celebrating a millennia-old craft with the theme "Essence of the Pearl Island."

At a recent press conference in Phú Quốc island city, the Việt Nam Association of Fish Sauce and the Phú Quốc Fish Sauce Producers' Association announced this tasty extravaganza.

Trần Minh Khoa, Chairman of the city People's Committee, expressed the festival's fantastic potential as a significant milestone, helping promote the brand, worth, and legacy of traditional fish sauce - a rich part of Phú Quốc's heritage and identity dating back 200 years.

Expect a smorgasbord of activities, starting with a conference focusing on managing and utilizing the Phú Quốc geographical indication fish sauce, an exhibition of local delicacies and OCOP items, gastronomical contests, traditional games, and cultural exchange events.

Hồ Kim Liẽn, President of the Việt Nam Association of Fish Sauce, noted the association’s 25-year commitment to promoting Phú Quốc fish sauce both domestically and abroad. The Phú Quốc fish sauce earned the first-ever EU geographical indication recognition for Vietnam in 2012, underscoring its incredible quality and international fame.

In 2021, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism recognized Phú Quốc's traditional fish sauce production as a national intangible cultural heritage, highlighting its cultural significance and contribution to Vietnam’s heritage.

With over 50 production facilities and roughly 7,000 fermentation barrels, Phú Quốc produces approximately 20 million liters of fish sauce annually.
