Taylor Swift receives a proposal
In a heartwarming twist, the Veltins Arena in Gelsenkirchen, Germany, has offered its chapel as a potential wedding venue for pop sensation Taylor Swift and NFL star Travis Kelce. The couple, who recently got engaged, have fond memories of Gelsenkirchen, having performed there during Swift's 2024 "Eras" tour.
The Veltins Arena, home to FC Schalke 04, made the offer public through an Instagram post that tagged both Swift and Kelce's accounts. The post featured a video inviting the couple to consider their chapel, which has hosted over 3,000 religious ceremonies in total, including more than 2,000 child baptisms and 1,000 weddings and jubilees. Two pastors, one Catholic and one Evangelical, serve in the chapel.
The special connection between Swift and Gelsenkirchen began last summer when she gave three sold-out shows in the city. The German News Network (RND) reported on the offer, adding to the excitement. Kelce, too, has expressed fond memories of Gelsenkirchen, mentioning it on his podcast "New Heights".
The fan who started the petition to temporarily rename Gelsenkirchen to "Swiftkirchen" is a Swift enthusiast from the Lower Rhine region. The petition was successful, with the city adopting the temporary name for a short period.
Despite the public offer, Swift and Kelce have not yet announced their wedding location. The couple is currently enjoying their engagement and is not preparing for a wedding at this time.
The Veltins Arena's chapel is not the only place in Gelsenkirchen that holds a special place in Swift's heart. Kelce, too, has formed a bond with the city. Their potential wedding at the Veltins Arena would indeed be a fitting tribute to their shared memories.
