Tech Giants Pour £31 Billion into UK with AI, Data Centers, and Job Creation

Tech giants are pouring billions into the UK. OpenAI, Microsoft, Google, Salesforce, Nvidia, and CoreWeave are expanding their presence with new data centers, AI systems, and other infrastructure projects.

OpenAI is launching the OpenAI Academy in the UK, aiming to boost AI literacy and retrain up to 7.5 million employees by 2030. Meanwhile, Microsoft is investing $30 billion over four years, including the construction of a supercomputer with over 23,000 GPUs near London in collaboration with Nscale.

Salesforce is expanding its investment program to a total of $6 billion. Google is also investing heavily, committing £5 billion to a new data center in Hertfordshire over the next two years. BlackRock is contributing £500 million to UK infrastructure, while cloud provider CoreWeave has pledged £1.5 billion, including for a data center in Scotland, supplemented by previously committed funds of £1 billion.

Collectively, these US companies are investing over £31 billion in the UK. Nvidia is participating in an £11 billion program for UK and international data centers, aiming to install around 120,000 AI accelerators in the country by 2026. The 'Stargate UK' project, a collaboration between OpenAI, Nvidia, and UK data center provider Nscale, will initially use up to 8,000 Nvidia GPUs, with the potential to increase to 31,000 chips later on, and will be located in the new AI Growth Zone in Cobalt Park.

These significant investments by US tech giants in the UK underscore the country's attractiveness for tech infrastructure projects. They are expected to boost AI capabilities, create jobs, and drive innovation.
