The town of Quedlinburg proudly presented the six spectacular "WONDERS" within the "Royal Days" city festival, a World Heritage city. The 6 WONDERS - World Heritage in Saxony-Anhalt campaign puts the state's UNESCO World Heritage sites in the spotlight, making them contemporary, family-friendly, and tailored to various audiences.
The World Heritage Compass Saxony-Anhalt, an online tool at www.welterbe-kompass.de, offers personalized suggestions for visitors, considering their interests. This tool recommends suitable sights, dining options, insider tips, and more. Meanwhile, the WONDERS Tour, a 300-kilometer journey exploring the state's World Heritage sites, is designed for exploration in eight days or flexible weekend trips. In Quedlinburg, Dr. Sebastian Putz, State Secretary for Culture, alongside other dignitaries, celebrated this digital, participatory, and intergenerational marketing campaign. The "You Won't Believe It!" discovery booklet, introducing children to the WONDERS Tour's eight World Heritage stations, was also unveiled. This booklet comes with an exciting sticker collection activity featuring attractive prizes. The booklet and stickers are available online and at all WONDERS Tour stations.
In the coming months, the streets of Magdeburg, Halle (Saale), Dessau-Roßlau, and Quedlinburg will be graced by vehicles styled for the campaign. The WONDERS-themed city bus is already rolling in Dessau.
During the celebration, Saxony-Anhalt's World Heritage sites will commemorate significant anniversaries. In 2025:
- The Bauhaus's move to Dessau marks its 100th anniversary. From September 2025, the Bauhaus Dessau Foundation and partners will celebrate the anniversary with exhibitions, artistic programs, conferences, and festivals.
- Twenty-five years ago, the Garden Realm of Dessau-Wörlitz became a UNESCO World Heritage site, recognizing Prince Franz von Anhalt-Dessau's lifework. The anniverary will be honored with various events throughout the year.
- The Pretzschnerwehr will celebrate its 150th anniversary with a ceremonial act and family festival on September 6, 2025. This engineering marvel is on its way to UNESCO World Heritage status.
Under the motto "Communicate, connect, inspire," the German UNESCO Commission and the Association of UNESCO World Heritage Sites in Germany invited everyone nationwide to join the annual action day on June 1, 2025. World Heritage Day was celebrated for the 20th time under the themes of the "6 WONDERS" campaign, which is implemented by the Investment and Marketing Corporation Saxony-Anhalt mbH on behalf of the State Chancellery and the Ministry of Culture.
Saxony-Anhalt boasts an impressive collection of UNESCO World Heritage sites, including cultural and learning sites like the Luther memorial sites in Eisleben and Wittenberg, Naumburg Cathedral, the World Heritage city of Quedlinburg, the Bauhaus Dessau, and the Middle Elbe Biosphere Reserve. Additionally, Saxony-Anhalt houses valuable documents and two biosphere reserves, Drömling and Harz Nature Park, part of the "Geopark Harz Braunschweiger Land Ostfalen" joining the Global UNESCO Network of Geoparks. Early writings of the Reformation movement and the Pretzschener Wehr and Franckesche Foundations in Halle are further candidates for UNESCO World Heritage status. Lastly, the Merseburg Incantations are on their way to becoming World Documentary Heritage.
