Western Sydney University Expands International Reach with Approval of India Campus
Western Sydney University Expands to India with New Campus in Greater Noida
Western Sydney University (WSU) is set to establish a new campus in India, located in Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh. The campus, scheduled to open in August 2026, aims to offer unparalleled opportunities for students and communities in India.
The initial programs at the India campus will focus on Business, Innovation, and Entrepreneurship. In the coming years, WSU plans to expand its offerings to include Data Science, Science, and agricultural-focused programs, aligning with national priorities and India's economy.
The curriculum at the India campus is designed to empower the next generation workforce, supporting innovation, sustainability, and entrepreneurship, in line with India's National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. The campus will also host the Launch Pad business incubator, providing entrepreneurial education, startup training, and research commercialisation.
WSU has received formal approval to establish a foreign branch campus in Greater Noida. The university's strategic partnerships with Indian institutions such as the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs), Indian Institute of Science (IISc), and National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) will foster research collaboration, knowledge exchange, and sectoral innovation.
The India campus will operate within WSU’s global 'One University' network, facilitating student and faculty mobility between campuses in Australia, Vietnam, Indonesia, and India, enhancing bi-directional academic and business collaborations.
WSU has been a top choice for Indian students for over 20 years, with 20% of the international cohort at Western Sydney University being Indian students. Notable flagship projects include the Centre of Excellence in Hi-Tech Protected Cropping with ICAR, the Australia-India Water Centre, and a AUD13 million nationwide pollination initiative.
The announcement of the India campus was made at the Akhil Bharatiya Shiksha Samagam 2025 in New Delhi in the presence of Minister of Education, Dharmendra Pradhan, along with key ministers from the Centre and States, and senior education leaders.
The Vice-Chancellor and President, Distinguished Professor George Williams AO, stated that the India campus would open up new opportunities for students and communities in India. The Chancellor, Professor Jennifer Westacott AC, has shared that the India campus reflects a major strategic commitment by the University to extend its international impact.
