Yosemite's Campgrounds to Reopen This Summer for the First Time Since 2019's Shutdown
Eagerly Awaiting Summer Nights Under the Stars at Yosemite's Campgrounds! Let's get this party started!
This summer, prepare for a fabulous camping adventure at Yosemite National Park as all 13 campgrounds are set to reopen, a first since 2019! That's right, folks, with an extra 500 campsites up for grabs, it's going to be a wild and magical time for over 4 million expected visitors[2][4]!
Ray McPadden, the acting superintendent at Yosemite National Park, couldn't be more thrilled. "We're beyond excited to welcome camper's back to our park as we dive into the bustling summer season," he shared in a recent statement[2]. "Experiencing the great outdoors in Yosemite is an unparalleled experience, and we aim to provide a chance for as many visitors as possible to create unforgettable memories"[2].
As if COVID-19 hadn't already caused enough disruptions, maintenance and staffing difficulties forced the closure of several campgrounds beginning in 2020. But fear not, because this summer is all about turning over a new leaf!
Mark your calendars as White Wolf Campground sets its sights on a June 20th opening, with Tamarack Flat following suit on June 23rd, and Yosemite Creek officially joining the party on July 1st[2][3][4]. Unfortunately, Bridalveil Creek, Porcupine Flat, and Tuolumne Meadows campgrounds still don't have concrete opening dates just yet[2][3][4]. Keep your eyes peeled for updates from either the National Park Service or official Yosemite National Park camping page[2][3].
Don't waste any time idling around, camping enthusiasts! With fierce competition for spots, reservations often get snatched up mere minutes after they open[2]. Lucky for you, reservations are now taking bookings for White Wolf and Tamarack Flat campgrounds, and reservations for Yosemite Creek will open shortly[2]. As of press time, weekend campers won't find much availability beyond late August for Friday and Saturday nights, but keep your hopes up as some Sundays at the White Wolf still remain[3].
Visitors without camping ressies can still swing by the park using day passes when campgrounds are fully booked[2].
By now, you might be curious about Yosemite's reservation system, which made its debut in 2020 due to the pandemic and was momentarily paused for a review by the Trump administration[2]. Rest easy, because the system was back online in late March, and the Yosemite National Park staff remains dedicated to improving and expanding access to this stunning national treasure[2].
Happy camping, ya'll!
